Alas I cannot swim...

Today I'm having a musically inspired day. So I thought I'd share a bit of it with you. Here's a few gorgeous artists I'm in love with. All their websites are in my links over there>>>>>>>>> too. Enjoy.
Well...
1) Laura Marling...
I mentioned her before I knowwww. But she's my current favourite. Discovered as a result of seeing her band, Noah and the Whale. (who are also awesome, see 2) I've just fallen head over heels for her lyrics and her voice makes the hairs on my back stand on end. If you do one thing today, listen to her. Ghosts (the demo version if you can get it), Old Stone, and New Romantic are simply orgasmic. And she's like 18. Not that I'm jealous or anything.

2) Noah and The Whale...

The first time I saw this band, was possibly the best gig I've ever been to in my life. Granted, it was a very emotional time of my life, and I was with possibly my favourite person in the world, but the atmosphere was amazing- it was in a small eclectic pub in Leeds, which looks like a cross between an Elle Dec centre spread and your Nan's living room. Along with Jay Jay Pistolet and Laura Groves, this band rocked my world that night. And what could be better than acoustic folk accompanied by moustaches and violins really?

3) Foals...
This lot are generally described in the press with lots of big pretentious words that get right on my tits. But basically all you need to know is, they're awesome and their music makes me happy. Their gigs are usually frantic and full of energy, and their sound is unlike anything you're likely to have ever heard. They also do a chuffin' brilliant version of Gwen Stefani's giving it... 'This shit is bananas... B-A-N-A-N-A-S... hilarious genius. Give Balloons, Cassius or Two Steps, Twice a go. You'll be happy you did. (" We fly balloons on this fuel called love...")

4) Maccabees...
Literally the love of my life. This band will always hold amazing memories for me of giggles and being happy and late-night phonecalls. But besides all that, they are one of the freshest sounds to come out of the UK indie scene in a long time, and their songs are honest, and heartfelt and real. They're not afraid of just singing about emotions, feeling no need to pepper them with irony and just writing amazing love songs. First Love (especially the acoustic version) is so good it hurts.

5) Guillemots...
This band are just incredible. Every song is a belter, they make music by playing the backs of chairs, typewriters... anything and everything, and Fyfe Dangerfield is possibly the world's most amazing man ever. I love music that acheieves real emotion without being sappy, and the Guillemots manage it with bells on. Once you've listened to Made Up Lovesong, you'll be hooked.
More to come later...
